Ottakar's Bookshops run an annual poetry competition with Faber books to celebrate National Poetry Day on 10 October
The following poem by Abbie won the 5-8 year old category for 2002

'Moon and Trees at Night'

When the tired sun sets
The evil trees say
‘Yes, yes!
We can scare the children
Who lay in their beds!’

When the alert moon comes out
She says,
‘No, no!
Don’t scare the children
Who lay in their beds!’

When the sleepy children who lay
In their beds hear the racket
They say,
‘We won’t be scared by your shadows!’

And the children put their heads
Under their pillows and fall
Soundly asleep
While the shadows
Dance on the windows
And the moon just smiles
