Chelsea Mountney

Hi! I’m Chelsea Mountney. I’m twelve and I’ve been home educated for over three and a half years. I spent four years in school and came out because I was becoming unhappy and upset from pressure and stress. I wasn’t happy with the teachers and there wasn’t choice in subjects, and we did hardly any art.

I enjoy being home educated but sometimes I miss school, here are the reasons: I miss being with friends all the time all though they weren’t very good friends!; I miss gymnastics and I miss the last day of school before the summer holidays! But they are the only things I miss; for me the good things about home ed definitely outweighs school.

In a way home edding is harder because you have to drive yourself to work, to get on with things, motivate yourself. But it’s great because you have your own choice in subjects, you can work when you like, for example you can go out in the day and work in the evening, you can choose who you want to be friends with. At school you have no choice. You can make new friends. You can go on more trips and you don’t have to put up with mean teachers.

When I came out of school I was worried that I wouldn’t make any home educated friends and I would not know anybody except my old school friends. But I was so wrong! I have made loads of friends that are home educated, I have met loads of home educated people. My home educated friends are much nicer than some of my school friends who tried to be better than me all the time. They are much more reliable. Although I do have a few old school friends who I am very close to.

At the moment I enjoy being home educated and I can’t see myself going back to school. I’m prepared to work for exams at home, if I need to. And I am confident that I will get where I want to go in life with home education.

Home education is great.
