The Exploration Society Outdoor Education can be about much more than just “hard” skills such as rock climbing or navigation. We also try to teach our young people attitudes which will help them live a happy, healthy and active life. To encourage this, we award “Contours” – coloured discs representing 10, 20 or 50 Meters of Ascent to recognise those who have best embodied the E.Soc Ethos. When an individual reaches certain levels of altitude they are awarded a prize to recognise their achievements.
We try new things
We leave no one behind
We stay positive
We give something back
We are resilient

Studland Bay Summer Camp Now in its 17th year, this is a small and informal camp for Home Educating families.
We generally have between 10 and 15 families, and people are encouraged to come for the whole week if possible. Many of these families have been coming for years, but we also always welcome newcomers. We have children of all ages – pre-school to post-school; some even second-generation Home Edders.
There is very little organized activity, but we do a lot of things as a group. Most mornings we gather together for some singing and to talk about ideas for the day. In the typical week we will have at least two trips to the sea altogether, and some bike rides and/or walks in smaller groups. We also always have a shared meal on one of the evenings. Once it is dark we build a fire, and more often than not guitars come out and there is some jamming.
To give an idea of the location:
• A wild and beautiful area of pine forest and lowland heath
• 4 miles to the sea, dunes and bird sanctuary
• Dorset steam railway nearby to the beach at Swanage
• Corfe castle (of Famous Five fame) nearby
• Cycleways and paths through the woods to the sea
• Camping in a large field backed by pine woods and nearby stream
• Access to facilities at adjoining campsite
• We bring an events shelter
• You bring bikes, drums, instruments
If the idea of hanging out with fellow Home Edders in a pretty laid-back way appeals to you, then this Camp will probably suit you. Do contact either Adrian or Vicky on he@linklaterhicks.co.uk and we can give you some more information and tell you how to go about booking.

AEFES AEFES was created as a result of the much loved HESFES being cancelled. We are a community of adults, teenagers and children all working in unity to create a festival where all voices can be heard, all opinions considered and all decisions made in a democratic setting.
