Research Papers Relating to Home Education

There are more and more papers being published concerning home education and its benefits to children who have been home educated. This page is currently under construction and will be added to as and when information becomes available.
  Paula Rothermel has undertaken much research on home education; articles and research can be seen on her website. Her PhD research (2002) leaflet showing the benefits of HE on numeracy, literacy and social skills can be purchased from EO publications.
  Homeschooling of Children with Disabilities by Lucy Reilly, Anne Chapman and Tom O'Donoghue - a case study approach looking at six Western Australian families. (This is a large pdf file and takes a while to download).
  Homeschooling Grows Up - The Homeschool Legal Defense Association (of America) commissioned this research in 2003 from Dr Brian D Ray. It looks at the lives of adults who were home schooled.

  Homeschooling Works - 20,760 student achievement test scores and their family demographics make this the largest study of home education to date! Results demonstrate that home schooled students are doing exceptionally well and provide an informative portrait of America’s modern home education movement. Conducted by Dr. Lawrence M. Rudner, Director of the ERIC Clearinghouse on Assessment and Evaluation.

  Trevena Whitbread Dissertation - an undergraduate dissertation from 2003 looking at college and university admission policies and attitudes to home educated children.
  Schools of the Air - Not strictly home education, but a study done by Fowler in 1987 of the Australian School of the Air radio/correspondence schooling for isolated children.

  The Choices Families Make: Home Schooling in Canada Comes of Age - Report from the Fraser Institute on the success of home schooling.
  Inclusion and Autism: Is it Working? - Whilst not strictly about home education, this report was produced by the National Autistic Society, and looks at the experiences of children with autism and asperger's syndrom in schools. It has been included here for the increasing number of parents who are considering home education for their autistic spectrum children due to inadequacies of provision at schools.
